The whole idea of me having my own blog started off from one of my friend @Nivudy who happened to share her blogging ideas with me. So, all thanks to her for inspiring me to do this. As we discussed, we thought of a couple of titles that would best suit my interests, that is of course travelling and here I landed with “Now, Voyager”.
For the reason that beginning of December is here and the feeling that Christmas is around the corner excites me. I decided to explore the world-famous Christmas market of Nuremberg.
As I walked the streets I could smell the fresh mulled wine, rum punch toasted almonds, bratwurst and ginger bread in the air and I sure wanted to try them all.
Toy Stalls and Prune Men
There are huge number of stalls along the way where you see beautiful Christmas tree decorations made from wood, glass and handcraft products, also the handmade Nuremberg prune men, made from dried prunes and figs. Maybe you’ll take one home as a souvenir?
Hot Mulled Wine
Next on the list was the mulled wine which is a traditional drink during the Christmas season also a best suit to the winters since you drink it hot and spicy. It comes along in a beautiful mug, which is designed especially for every year. It’ll be the perfect souvenir for your kitchen cupboard at home!
Famous Gingerbread/Lebkuchen
Ginger breads are a must try when you are in Nuremberg, which is baked for more than 600 years. At the Christmas Market you’ll get them in every size and with different coatings like chocolate, sugar or even strawberry!
Kinderweihnacht and Carousel
A huge carousel is the big attraction of the children’s Christmas Market which is a definite try although you are not a kid anymore. Also, a visit to the not so cute Santa Claus who sits in the ‘Nicholas House’ is worth a try, where you can go take pictures with him.
Yummm Maroni/Heisse Maroni
Hot chestnuts is a popular snack during the winters and you’ll see more than one maroni stand along the streets which are roasted on an open drum and a pack of these hot chestnuts is something that you can munch on nonstop.
